ESSAY ABOUT LOVE (ENG)

I cannot not believe that real love is out there. That relationships do work and that the person(s) who you are meant to be with still exists. I don’t have a magic potion or spell and I certainly have not got a relationship that can speak for my theory. But I have witnessed real love and I just have to believe, I feel it in my bones when a talk about it. Like a deep inner knowing that love is not lost. Love is there in every single corner.

But it’s not coming our way if we don’t seek it if we don’t envision it, go on dates or even give it a chance.  The right love won’t come to us if we don’t think we deserve the world. If we don’t heal the wounds some buffoon made before. Take it from a girl who has never dared greatly in love. If I could, I would do it differently. I would be bold, I would not sit and wait around I would go out there and live a little. Like I am doing now, not shying away from the greatness and the sadness and all the in between that lovers have to offer.

Some may call me naïve, and I’d say they are probably most definitely right. I haven’t experienced half of the heartbreak people around me have when it comes to lovers. Like I said before being bold in love is new to me. Letting someone close is a very new concept for my 28 year old brain.

I want to quote one of my favourite Coldplay songs: ‘My song is love, is love unknow and I’ve got to get that message home’.

I don’t want to live a life where I don’t see love in every moment, where I don’t believe that the love(s) of my life are just around the corner picking out something for dinner.

Sometimes I think I see love more than other people do because I have spent most of my (adult) life figuring out what it meant for me. What it meant to finally love yourself as is. What it meant to be loved by my family and friends. What it meant to be loved by complete strangers. Because for the life of me I couldn’t see it or understand it.

I now know that love isn’t only found in partners, it’s found in family, in friends, in nature, in small everyday gestures, or just a hot plate of food, in letting someone take care of you and most importantly in ourselves.

My favourite symbol is a heart. I used ask myself why am I so drawn to hearts and love. It’s because it’s the purest form of energy. It doesn’t need effort, it just is. Relationships are work, it requires two people to be all in, giving it oxygen and keep showing up for each other. But the love part of the relationship, it’s just there. You don’t need to prove your worth or yourself, you should be able to just receive. Love is unconditional. When people use it conditionally, it was never love to begin with. There are no tasks to fulfil, no list of characteristics to be met. When the right people get to know the real you, they will gradually fall in love with you as a partner, as a friend, etc. Just because you are you.

Life isn’t always rainbows and sunshine. It’s hard, it’s heart-wrenching at times but what keeps us going in the end is love in every form.

I’d like to believe that love is what bonds us as humans and that people is what I find so beautiful in life: love. The purest energy there is.
